Bio-Reference
Laboratories strives to produce the most accurate and precise
laboratory data for our professional clients. We are justifiably
proud of our record of proficiency tests carried out under the
auspice of the Departments of Health of New Jersey, New York
State, and the College of American Pathologists.
In
addition to these proficiency tests, we routinely augment them,
on a voluntary basis, with a comprehensive "In-House"
program of quality control and assurance. Our internal program-
- Utilizes
blind split samples;
- Reviews
on a daily basis all control data carried out the previous
24 hours;
- Monitors
short and long term shifts and trends of control data;
- Statistically
reviews patient means data for the most commonly used tests;
- Produces
monthly computerized quality assurance reports that compare
our results with all other laboratories using the same reagents
and methodologies;
- Provides
regular seminars to all scientific staff, updating them on
newer procedures and clinical advances in the field.
While
Bio-Reference Laboratories utilizes the most modern instrumentation,
the continued accuracy of our results depends upon the skills
of our senior scientists, medical technologists and technicians.
We are particularly proud of our staff who offer dedicated service
and quality in a timely manner.
Bio-Reference
Laboratories is always open for visits by physicians and their
staff. On request we will also provide "In-Service"
seminars and talks to any of our clients on a wide range of
topics. Our scientific staff have presented papers at many international,
national and local meetings and will be happy to discuss your
needs. Please call our Client Service Coordinator for additional
information.
Reference Ranges:
Most
reference ranges are based on limits of the central 95th percentile
for the test results from a normal population.
For
other test ranges, the reagent manufacturers' suggested ranges
are used. By standard definition approximately 5% of the normal
population will have results exceeding the reference range,
either on the low or high side. A test that falls within the
printed reference range may not indicate normalcy however, and
its interpretation has to be taken into consideration with all
of the clinical and diagnostic features of the patient.
