How can I learn more about the tests my doctor has ordered?

You can find accurate information about lab testing on the following websites:
http://labtestsonline.org – Lab Tests Online
http://www.webmd.com – Web MD
http://ghr.nlm.nih.gov – Genetics Home Reference

For more detailed information, please contact your healthcare provider.

How do I prepare for my tests?

Your healthcare provider may ask you to fast overnight or for several hours before the test. If you are not certain please contact your healthcare provider.

Can I continue to take medications before a test?

You should take your usual medications unless told otherwise by your healthcare provider. Be sure to ask if you can take vitamin/mineral supplements before your test.

Can I order my own tests?

Due to regulations, individuals cannot order tests themselves. We encourage you to talk to your healthcare provider if you are interested in having a specific laboratory test performed.

How can I obtain my test results?

Your test results will be sent to your ordering physician. Contact your provider’s office to receive your test results.

How can I give you feedback on my experience?

Why have I received a bill?

The invoice you received is for laboratory services provided by Bio Reference, which were ordered by your physician. This invoice is for laboratory testing fees only and is separate from any bill you may have received from your physician and/or paid at your physician’s office. If you have received a bill, it means that we do not have your valid insurance information, or we have received information from your insurance company indicating that you are responsible for a portion of the cost of our services.

Why didn’t my insurance pay this claim?

Your insurance carrier should send you an Explanation of Benefits (EOB) that explains in detail the services that were either paid or denied. You may also find this information on the invoice. If you need additional information you should contact your insurance carrier directly to determine the reason(s) why your insurance company did not pay your bill.

Does BioReference offer any discounts if I do not have insurance?

Through our Community Health Advocacy Program, BioReference offers discounted pre-pay options on select tests performed at our laboratory. In addition, we provide a discount/savings card for uninsured patients that can be applied towards the laboratory bill for qualified tests. Please contact our Billing Department within 14 days after receiving your first bill for additional information.

How do I file a claim using secondary insurance for the remainder of my lab bill?

If you have more than one insurance policy, you must submit to the secondary insurance company directly with a copy of your Explanation of Benefits (EOB) from your primary insurance company. Mail the bill you received, along with the EOB, to your secondary insurance company’s claim processing address.

My insurance company issued me a check; do I send it to BioReference?

Yes, make sure you endorse the back of the check and send a copy of the EOB with it.
