About
Accurate diagnosis begins before a specimen reaches the laboratory- it begins at the point of collection. BioReference® provides collection guidance to help ensure the correct specimen type is collected, and the correct collection tube is used for every ordered test.
Before every collection, please verify:
- The correct test has been ordered and matched to the patient.
- The correct tube type (and order of draw, if drawing multiple tubes) is used.
- Tubes are properly and immediately labeled with the patient’s name, date of birth, and collection date/time at the point of collection.
- Tubes are filled to the correct volume when required (especially for coagulation and certain chemistry tests).
- Specimens are stored and transported under the appropriate conditions (e.g., refrigerated, on ice, protected from light).
