Clinical Utility:
Follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) is produced by the anterior pituitary gland and helps regulate a women’s menstrual cycle and production of eggs by the ovaries. Levels vary during a normal menstrual cycle and should peak just prior to ovulation. In males, FSH assists with control of sperm production and levels remain relatively constant. FSH, along with other hormones, is primarily used to assess the pituitary-ovarian axis with respect to ovulation and fertility.
