Clinical Utility:
T3 (triiodothyronine) is used together with T4 (thyroxine) to assess thyroid function. Both are produced by the thyroid gland and are controlled by pituitary-hypothalamic feedback. T3 can be used to diagnose hyperthyroidism, thyroid follicular neoplasms, thyrotoxicosis or to monitor other thyroid disorders.
