Vitamin A is a fat-soluble retinoid found in animal products and as provitamin A carotenoids in fruit and vegetables. Mostly stored in the liver in the form of retinyl esters, there are two natural forms of vitamin A; retinol (vitamin A1) and 3-hydro-retinal (vitamin A2). Vitamin A plays an important role in growth and specialization of virtually all body cells and is critical in embryonic development, immune function and vision.

Collection Instructions:
AMBSE: Draw SST or RED, let clot for 8-10 minutes. Centrifuge and pour into either an aliquot tube (must be covered in foil) or poured into an amber tube and label with patient name and specimen type (serum).
Storage Transport Instructions:
Alternate Specimen SST: Fill tube, invert gently 5 times, label with patient name, let stand for minimum of 30 minutes, maximum of 1 hour, spin for 10-15 minutes
