0551 : Lipoprotein Electrophoresis w/Lipids
INFORMATION:
Alternate Name:
LIPOPROTEIN ELECTRO
Methodology:
Electrophoresis
Clinical Utility:
Lipoproteins are heterogeneous compounds containing both lipids and proteins which allow the transport of lipids through aqueous environments. There are five different types of lipoproteins in the blood, and they are commonly classified according to their density: Very Low-Density Lipoproteins (VLDL, Pre Beta, Low-Density Lipoproteins (LDL, Beta), High-Density Lipoprotein (HDL, Alpha), Chylomicrons, Intermediate Density Lipoprotein (IDL). Elevated LDL levels are associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease. LDL is also known as the "bad" cholesterol.
Components:
Cholesterol, Triglycerides, HDL CHOL., DIRECT
