Clinical Utility:
Urine culture is the reference standard for the diagnosis of UTI. Urine culture is designed to quantitate the growth of significant bacteria when collected by the Clean Catch Guidelines or from indwelling catheters. Quantitative culturing of urine is an established tool to differentiate significant bacteriuria from contamination introduced during voiding.

Collection Instructions:
UGY: Perform a clean catch process, collect urine in sterile container, transfer 5-10 ml into the special grey tube, label with patient's name
Storage Transport Instructions:
CS: Using aseptic technique, insert the syringe tip into the sampling port of the catheter, withdraw at least 10ml of urine, transfer 5 - 10ml into the UGY-Urine Tube- Grey Top, and label with patient's name. Send the specimen to the lab immediately or refrigerate until it can be transported to the lab.
