Clinical Utility:
MDS with isolated 5q- is a discrete subset of MDS with a favorable prognosis. Unlike the majority of MDS, most patients with 5q- syndrome are elderly woman, with a 2:1 female predominance. Lenalidomide (an immunmodulatory drug) is FDA approved for 5q- MDS. Commonly ordered through the MDS FISH panel (TC Only), P960-8.
