Clinical Utility:
FISH for 13q14.3 (D13S319) provides useful prognostic information in the management of CLL patients. Deletions involving 13q14 are detectable by FISH in approximately 50% of persons with CLL. As the sole aberration, del(13q) is associated with a more favorable clinical outcome. However, recent studies have shown that certain CLL patients with a larger size deletion in 13q14 correlate strongly with a concomitant RB1 deletion. Patients with an RB1 deletion or those have a 13q14.3 deletion in > or equal to 70% of nuceli have in fact a shorter time to treatment. Commonly ordered through the CLL FISH panel (TC Only), P962-4.
