Clinical Utility:
Thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) is produced by the anterior pituitary and promotes the uptake of iodide and the release of thyroid hormones T4 and T3. TSH levels are used to assess thyroid function regulated by the feedback mechanism of thyroid hormones. It is most commonly used as a screening test for hypothyroidism.
