Genetic education and counseling is a valuable part of patient care and can help patients understand the benefits and limitations of genetic testing. Some commercial insurances require pre-test genetic counseling from an independent genetic counselor as a condition of coverage for genetic testing. This test code serves as an authorization by the ordering provider for referral of a patient to an outside genetic education and counseling service. Patients will receive genetics education and genetic counseling, when either required by insurance or requested by the patient.
